Nervous Patients

Nervous or worried about dental treatment?

Are you the type of person who avoids having dental work done because you have a strong aversion to going to the dentist? Being nervous or scared about going to the dentist affects people in different ways. Some are anxious about specific aspects of dental treatment. Many people are put off going to the dentist due to underlying fears. This could be due to a bad dental experience as a child or even a high gag reflex.

Whatever the reason, we realise that the anxiety is real. Being afraid, or being scared of the Dentist, is an age old recognised and legitimate fear, sometimes called a "phobia". So, please do not feel silly or embarrassed, you are not alone.

Distraction Techniques

It is sometimes helpful to distract attention away from the treatment. You can do this in a number of ways:

  • Listen to music
  • Concentrate on relaxing each part of your body in turn
  • Think about something you are looking forward to
  • Practise deep, slow breathing.

Here at Dental Solutions all our staff are accustomed to dealing with nervous patients. We will do our utmost to ensure your dental experience with us is the least traumatic dental experience you have had. Some ways in which we can help make your experience more comfortable:

DENTAL INJECTIONS - The dentists ensures that injections are as comfortable as possible by using a topical cream which numbs the gums. The local anaesthetic is warmed to body temperature so the procedure is less painful and every surgery has relaxing music in the background to help relax the patient.

COMFORTABLE DENTAL CHAIRS - The practice has dental chairs that ensure total comfort when the patient is lying down and is especially suitable for longer appointments.

BEST EQUIPMENT & DRILLS - Dentists use high quality dental equipment. The drills used in the practice are the very latest technology with built in fibre-optic lights.
